Low back pain from an injury, degenerative condition or spinal misalignment can limit both your range of motion and your lifestyle. But the good news is that you don't have to live with it -- because you can get the relief you need at Secrest Family Chiropractic in Scottsdale, AZ.
Low back pain can occur acutely, in response to an immediate dysfunction, or it can be the culmination of many years of spinal misalignment. When the spinal column is not aligned correctly, your weight distribution can be thrown off balance, causing some muscle groups (including those in the lumbar region) to experience constant strain and discomfort. Pregnancy, with its extreme physical changes, is a good example of a musculoskeletal imbalance causing low back pain. Spinal stenosis (narrowing of the bony canal around the spinal cord) and spondylolisthesis (slippage of one vertebra over another vertebra) are other potential sources of low back pain.
The discs that cushion your vertebrae against pain and injury can also be a source of low back pain. A flattened-out or bulging disc in the lumbar spine can stress the nearby vertebral joints due to loss of "height," creating inflammation and possibly contributing to spinal arthritis. A herniated disc sustained in an auto accident or work injury can also cause low back pain. Not only is the tear in the disc's outer layer painful in its own right, but the gelatinous inner material can push out through the torn outer layer and pinch lumbar nerve roots. If the sciatic nerve or its roots become pinched, you may experience acute pains in the leg or hip as well as the lower back. This problem is called sciatica.
Our natural, conservative techniques have helped many Scottsdale, Tempe and Mesa AZ patients get their symptoms under control without major surgery. Our Scottsdale chiropractor, Dr. Daniel P. Secrest, DC, will begin by discussing your symptoms and medical history with you while evaluating your spinal column carefully for signs of subluxation (misalignment), disc damage, degenerative conditions or other issues.
A chiropractic protocol called Koren Specific Technique can help us find and correct alignment problems. Even small adjustments in the lumbar and sacral regions can help restore mobility to painful joints and normalize disc position, relieving nerve tissue impingement.
